SPRAOI is the celebration that takes place when the students of various Coláiste na bhFiann Irish language summer courses meet together for a whole day of explosive fun all through the medium of Irish. The day is organised by Cumann na bhFiann, an after care programme for the summer courses. The idea of the day is to enlighten the students about the wonderful and exciting way that they can utilise their Irish once they leave the course through the youth clubs run by Cumann na bhFiann.

Coláiste na bhFianns' second SPRAOI for the month of July is taking place in St. Mels College in Longford, on Wednesday 16/07/2008. This is the largest of our SPRAOI days with an attendance of approximately 500 students of five of Coláiste na bhFianns' summer colleges - those courses being Naomh Mel, Longford; Ros Muc, Galway; Sligo; Ráth Cairn and Warrenstown College, Meath. A parade through the town of Longford will take place at 15:15. The students parade through the town singing the songs in Irish that they have learned on the course and also enjoying the atmosphere they themselves have created through Irish. It is amazing to witness all these students enjoying the language and realising that it is alive and that they can use it everyday.

40 years ago Coláiste na bhFiann ran it's first summer Irish course and from then it has gone from strength to strength. Coláiste na bhFiann organises three week Summer courses countrywide - Ros Muc, Galway, Rath Cairn and Warrenstown, Co. Meath, Sligo, Longford, Cnoc Beag, Carlow, Baile an Sceilg and Killarney in Kerry.

Cumann na bhFiann organise weekly/fortnightly Irish language youth clubs giving the students the opportunity to use and improve their spoken Irish As well as the youth club, Cumann na bhFiann organise various nationwide annual events, such as concerts, discos, weekends away, etc.

We welcome everyone along on any of the SPRAOI days to witness the spirit and love that the students hold for the Irish language.
